Pontiac again seeks bids for former home of Lions

The city of Pontiac is accepting bids again for the former
home of the Detroit Lions. The Detroit News reports the
deadline for bids for the Silverdome is Monday. Pontiac has
tried repeatedly to sell the Silverdome after the Lions left
in 2002 to move to Ford Field in Detroit. The Oakland Press
reports there have been some inquiries about the property.
The Pontiac City Council in July approved selling the Silverdome
for $20 million to Detroit-area attorney H. Wallace Parker, who
planned a $175 million development. But a Nov. 1 deadline to
close the deal passed. Parker says he wants to move forward
with a project that would include a family entertainment center,
restaurants and clubs. But he says environmental contamination
at the site has caused delays.

Raiders QB Russell hurts right ankle

Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell hurt his right
ankle late in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game
against the San Diego Chargers. His return was questionable.
Russell was intercepted twice by linebacker Stephen Cooper and
also lost a fumble, leading to 17 points for the Chargers. Russell
didn’t get up right away after throwing his second interception
and was later taken to the locker room on a cart. Andrew Walter
replaced Russell at the start of the third quarter.

WR Hannon joins Dolphins off waivers

Receiver Chris Hannon joined the Miami Dolphins off waivers
Thursday from the San Francisco 49ers. He takes the roster
spot of guard Justin Smiley, who was placed on injured reserve
after breaking his ankle Sunday against St. Louis. Hannon
spent the first 11 games of the season on the 49ers’ practice
squad, and he dressed but did not play in their most recent
game. He has also been with Kansas City and Carolina.

Saints place S Kaesviharn on IR

The New Orleans Saints placed Kevin Kaesviharn on injured
reserve Thursday, ending the safety’s season. Kaesviharn had
a neck injury that team officials described as a “stinger,”
or a pinched nerve. Coach Sean Payton said Thursday it was
the second time Kaesviharn had such an injury and that he
would need a few weeks to recover. The Saints filled
Kaesviharn’s spot on the roster by signing linebacker
Tearrius George off of Dallas’ practice squad. George is a
first-year player who has yet to play an NFL game. He was
first signed out of Kansas State by the New York Jets as an
undrafted free agent in 2006. He did not make the Jets’
roster. In 2007, George played in the CFL for the Calgary
Stampeders, posting 33 tackles and eight sacks.
